Back O Bourke Exhibition Centre

The tales of Australia’s explorers, poets, bushrangers and graziers are uncovered at the Back O’ Bourke Exhibition Centre. Interactive displays bring the evocative history of the outback to life in the northwest town of Bourke, an historic river port.

You’ll be fascinated by the inspirational stories of hardship and the legends of the outback. Find out more about one of Australia’s most famous poets, Henry Lawson, whose journey into the outback in 1892 influenced his writings for years.

On the banks of the gorgeous Darling River, the centre has a gift shop and café. In the winter season, the centre opens seven days, from 9am to 5pm. The Outback Show is Tuesday-Sunday at 11am. In summer, the centre is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Bourke is 780 km northwest of Sydney. The drive from Sydney is about nine hours. You can travel by train to Dubbo, where you can take a bus to Bourke. Airlines service Dubbo from Sydney. The drive from Dubbo is about four hours.
